Beds will Roll

This is one of the pictures of the mattresses from the Beds Will Roll event that took place on Saint Patrick's day downtown. More people than i thought around when the street was closed. It was a gorgeous day, over 60F, sunny, and lovely. Almost April weather and not what it normally is.

Bo's & Mine Saint Patrick's Day

I went out "early" to try and get some photos of the mattress races today, and while i did get some, i thought i'd post this one i took at Bo's & Mine downtown. It took quite a bit of searching to find an empty table, the pace was packed like i couldn't believe. I knew there would be people, but not so many and not so crazy. This was actually my fist time there, and while i enjoyed the food, i prefer it quieter. I'm sure it's not so bad when it's not something like this, as bad as the crowd was inside, there were more people outside.

Dreary Weather

While the snow is mostly gone, the weather has been gloomy and dreary. I like rain, generally, but it's made it feel colder than it really is and i'm also still waiting for the last big snow before my birthday. It seems to always happen later in March, so i'm waiting. This image was taken at a gas station at the northern part of town with a fish eye lens. It does give the feeling of how it's felt lately. It was a bit foggy this day, although in town not as much out of town.

Welcome sign

One of the welcome signs in town, this one next to Perkins on the north side. I realized i hadn't taken any of any of the signs of the city, so i'm going to try and get them. Took this with a fisheye lens, so you can see how the weather has been for a while now, cold, wet, foggy and dreary. The good part is that, while it's wet, it's rain, not snow. I'm tired of winter now, spring can't come fast enough. I also can't wait until green starts popping up, other than the odd evergreen or green-ish grass spot.

Kinnickinnic River Sign

This is the sign for the Kinnickinnic River where i took the other river photo. Nothing too thrilling really, just like how it looked.

Kinnickinnic River

This is the Kinnickinnic River, taken again with the holga lens mod, looking north at the point where it crosses County Road MM. Not the most thrilling, and yes, this also shows how small a town this is as it's only two blocks from the road that runs right through town. It's been colder than it has been lately, and while i'm glad it's warming up, i really miss green being on the trees and just seeing brown bare trees. That's probably a month away, but it's nice to see the changes starting, mostly being the snow melting a little bit at least.

"Dream" house

Since the weather was nice out today, i decided to drive around and try and get some photos. I also had my holga lens on my digital camera, and yes i do get a funny kick about using something so cheap on something high tech. I also came across my dream house, or at least one version of it. In the woods, off the main roads, is this awesome structure. Not sure how well you can tell, but there is a main house to the left, and what was probably a barn and a silo that has been 'altered'. There is a room on top of a silo, and a barn that seems to be finished so it is weather proof. I am so curious what it's like in there, and the view from the room on the silo. I'm sure they get tons of comments on it, so i doubt i will ever get up the courage to ask them. Still, if i ever win the lottery, or get stinking rich, this is probably what my house will look like.

Glacier

So there i was, exploring the glacier... okay, kidding, it's not. It's just an area of pretty deep snow (this was over a foot deep, close to two feet) that had melted back but reminded me of a glacier. Maybe i was influenced by a recent Nova episode on glaciers, which was very interesting, especially the time lapse video. It's been nicely warm, for us at least, in the 40f area. I'm not relaxing though, i know from living here too long that there will most likely be a big snow storm that puts a lot of snow back on the ground. I should post a picture of that, those late march or early april snow storms.

Meanwhile, there are people running around without jackets and wearing shorts. This is weather that is at most 50F. Yep, nordic people moved here originally.

Night bunny

As i was going up to bed the other night, after a very stressful couple of weeks, i looked out at my driveway. Where i saw this lovely little wild bunny sitting. I was not wanting to scare him off or anything, so i didn't use a flash or turn the light on, so this was as good as i could get. Some of the newer SLRs can hit insane ISO speeds, but mine only went to around 3200, so hopefully you can see him. (or her, i have no idea)

Me and a friend of mine used to have a thing, where if we saw a relaxed wild rabbit, it meant something good. No real point, but the fact that they are mostly hiding and hunted by everything, the fact that you saw one in a rare state had to mean something good. I'm hoping that's the case, i could really use it right now.

Bird in snowy tree

This was taken the same day as the snowy trees, i just forgot i had taken it. The bird really stands out in the tree, and it was interesting to see.

almost like Narnia

This is just a shot from out my front door this morning. It was lovely in a very unusual way, trees covered in this fluffy snow and beautiful looking. I wish i could have gotten a shot of the country, it was even more lovely, everything that could be was covered in this sparkling snow, but i had to drive my sick pet rabbit Zack to the vet. He's got kidney troubles, so i've been very worried about him and spending most of my time taking care of him. Anyway, this made for a very pretty, if not very bright drive as the sun started coming out as i left. It didn't last long though as once the sun did come out, it all melted or fell off the trees.

Funny Squirrels

I put out some orange slices for birds and other creatures, but not on this part of the deck. This is the doing of my bizarre squirrels i have in my yard. They did the same thing with an ear of corn. They move some of the larger things like this to spot, not sure why. I do find it funny though.

more fog

It's foggy again tonight, although this is another picture of last night. It's not that foggy tonight, i can actually see the apartment buildings back there tonight. Still creepy though.

Late night winter fog

I couldn't sleep, and when i went to get a drink and snack i noticed it looked "odd" outside. There is thick, thick fog outside, and it's really creepy out there. You can actually see farther in the photo than i can with naked eyes, and i balanced out the orange lights that you can see to better be able to tell it's snow on the ground. It's supposed to be in the 20s, and i guess i thought it was colder than fog tends to like. It's strange, and with my overactive imagination, all i can imagine is something like the movie "The Mist" or "Silent Hill". Although it's probably just fog. Probably.
